Artist Statement

Scott Bertram approaches his work in an improvisational manner, and aims to sustain formal ambiguity, subvert interpretation, and emphasize the material process of his practice. The associatively-rich paintings that emerge from this method remain unfixed, encouraging the viewer to draw out areas of unintended agency from their surfaces.
